Looks like somebody was looking for the original singer of Cek Mek Su (Che Mek Su, actually) song and brought to my blog today. Well, Ms. or Mr. Somebody… you came to the right place! I might not have written anything about the song, but I sure remember the petit singer named Gigi Villa from the Philipines. More on Gigi here.
Used to play Che Mek Su with my recorder, pianica and glokenspiel back at All Saints’ School. But there is another song by Gigi Villa worth mentioning here because I remember KaCher was crazy about it back then. She could be all teary when it played on the radio. And I could get all teary looking at her getting all teary. KaCher… this Kelembutan is for you, specialestly!
salam aidil fitri intan… semoga keberkatan illahi ini memupuk ketenangan fikir yang berterusan…
Salam Aidilfitri to you and family too, Abang Wan. Thank you for the wishes. Uh… you actually never used to call me Intan. You called me Nida. Hehe. Tu menunjukkan betapa lah lamanya kita lost contact kan? Losing the memories that we made over those years tu is obviously inevitable. Ahak ahak.
Hope your Raya pertama has been fantastic! 🙂
Oh my god oh my goddd! Woohooo…! Looking at the title i had no clues what song it was and was asking myself did i really?
After listening to it i must admit…well yeah i really did. Hehe…it still makes me syahdu now after uhh…how many years?
Ni yg sedih ni…going back to those years. Ah well…
Those were the days kan?
Thank you for reminding me of it. It’s a good going back to.
KaCher aaa…
That’s EXACTLY how I felt and exactly what I said when I first clicked on Kelembutan song on YouTube! I was just browsing for Che Mek Su when a few of Gigi Villa’s other songs came up. And I thought, okay… “Let’s see which one this Kelembutan song is,” I said to myself. By the time it got to the word bermuram… I was already in tears! Huaaaaaaa!
And I ended staying up another hour listening to Flora Santos, Peter Dicky Lee, Diana Nasution, Gaya Zakry, Muhaini Suratman, Safar Ghaffar, Eddy Silitonga, Bob Tutupoli, Betharia Sonata (Hati Yang Luka: “Pulangkan saja aku pada ibuku atau ayahkuuu…“… pehhh! You name ’em!
Do you remember the JVC Radio and the Toshiba black and white TV?
thank you…i was too small to remember who sang this but both songs were around when i was still running around my mom’s kitchen 🙂
Nina,
It is refreshing to hear songs from our childhood, kan! I am imagining a little girl running around her Mom’s kitchen getting herself into troubles and getting away with ’em. Sometimes it’s not the song, it’s the memory of events and people with the song playing in the background that makes it special. Love these two Gigi Villa’s songs with her cute accent!
