Siri Bercakap Dengan Edrick XXII

Edrick: Mommy! Mommy! Let’s go to that BBQ King shop!

Mommy: Na’ah… I am not shopping for anything there.

Edrick: But Mommy, they have that table soccer thingy there. I wanna play, I wanna play!

Mommy: No Monch, Kitreena will be out any minute from now. We have to pick her up.

Edrick: Of you keep on saying no…

Mommy: Not of Edrick, if.

Edrick: Iffff you keep on saying no, I’m never gonna call you Sweetie Pie everyday ever again!

Mommy: Huh? You don’t call me Sweetie Pie everyday anyway. I can live with it. So, I’ll keep on saying no then.

Edrick: Oh fooweyyy! *pouts, merajuks, and moves away from Mommy*

Mommy: *takes pictures, slides over and kisses the boy on the neck* This neck sure tastes better than a sweet pie!

Edrick: Ha ha ha ha ha!

My All

Kitreena: Mom, when we go to Atuk’s house this weekend I wanna give him money.

Mommy: Huh? Why do you wanna give him money?

Kitreena: So Atuk can get more food and stuff.

Mommy: Oh okay. But I think Atuk has enough food and stuff, Monch.

Kitreena: Yeah but there’s gonna be a lot of people at Atuk’s house this weekend. Maybe he won’t have enough money to buy food and stuff for everybody.

Mommy: Oookaaay. So… how much are you gonna give Atuk?

Kitreena: I found 50 cents by the pool the other day and I have one ringgit from the Tooth Fairy. One ringgit and fifty cents altogether.

Mommy: Oh… what a precious thought you have, sweetheart!

.

There are times when I have soooo much more than RM1.50 and feel like it is never enough, let alone feeling like giving. With this girl, though… I must have done something right somewhere. For, to her, it is better to have little and give all, than to have much and give none at all.
.

Thank you, Lord.

His Sis

Kitreena: Mom, yesterday Edrick said I was the worst sister in the whole world!

Mom: Oh yeah? Do you believe him?

Kitreena: Huh?

Mom: Do you think it’s true? Are you the worst sister in the whole world?

Kitreena: No! He just said that because he was angry at me.

Mom: Uhuh. Angry people say things they will regret.

Kitreena: Yeah! Like beep does!

Mom: Well! But you know, you become what you believe.

Kitreena: I know already. You told me.

Mom: *believes she is the best mom in her own world*

When Love Beckons

A while has it been since I really looked at love and knew what it was. And when the one I loved stomped on love like it was a finished cigar butt, love lost its light. And I… I lost its meaning. But then again, it was I who was looking at the wrong places, wrong faces.

.

Now, love is when…

  • he runs to the kitchen to look at what I am cooking.
  • she takes time to say, “Smellin’ good Mom!” on her way to the phone, and even when she is on the phone.
  • he says, “Good night sweet Mommy!”
  • she looks at me with tears in her eyes and says, “I will never ever stop loving you, Mom.”
  • he thinks no one can ever smell better than me in the morning, at noon and night. Even at bedtime.
  • she knows every pair of earrings I have and where I got them.
  • he thinks I am the best Greensleeves singer in the universe.
  • she draws, sketches and composes songs about no one else but me.
  • he never misses the “I love you Mom! See you at 2 o’clock!” when I drop him off at school.
  • she leaves the home-made cards of “I miss you loads and toads, Mommy” when I have to be away.
  • he hands me a Kleenex when I sneeze, cry, sob and chop some onions.
  • she reminds me about the morning hugs before we get in the car.
  • they are the reason I wake up every day and sleep every night.

.

.

The whole world can go tumbling down with its Jack and Jill.
I am at the top of the hill.

Present Progressive Tension

If she is just being emotional, calm her down. Enough of asking why she is being emotional. There are things you can reason. There are things you just let be. She is just missing her Daddy.

.

When she can’t explain why she feels certain feelings because she is just a child, stop being a professional engineer. All she needs is just a dad to say, “It’s all right.” You’re not constructing world’s longest hanging bridge.

.

Just like the two of us, she too, is Work In Progress.

Siri Bercakap Dengan Edrick XXI

Mommy: Okay Monch, no more Humpty Dumpty. Close your eyes.

Edrick: But I still want to read.

Mommy: You’re going to have a tough time getting up tomorrow morning.

Edrick: I promise there won’t be any hanky panky, Mom.

Mommy: Huh? Hanky panky? What do you mean hanky panky?

Edrick: I mean I won’t go hanky panky and panic when I get up for school, Mom. I promise!

Mommy: Hahahahahahaha! Okay, so hanky panky is like panicky you mean?

Edrick: Yes, Mom.

Mommy: Okay then. If you hanky panky tomorrow, I’ll panky spanky you. I promise.

Edrick: Good night sweet Mommy.

Mommy: Now don’t you do that hanky panky on me, young man.

Siri Bercakap Dengan Edrick XX

Of late, I feel like I am being bombarded with mature questions immaturely by me Monchies. And the questions mostly revolve around the situation I am in with their father. Like why we are not together when we are supposedly married, why is there a third person on the other side and none on this side, and why do people stop loving one another. And you can imagine so many  other wise why’s coming from Kitreena and Edrick.

.

The night after Edrick’s desperate attempt in match-making me with his classmate, Adam, we had yet another conversation.

.

Edrick: Mommy, what do people do when they get married?

Mommy: Hmmm they do a lot of things together.

Edrick: Things like what?

Mommy: Oh they err… uh… they cook together, they eat together, they do housework together, err… uh… they go places together. Anything. Everything together.

Edrick: Do they hold hands together?

Mommy: Oh yeah, they hold each other’s hands whenever they can. They do this too. They rub each other’s back. *rubs Edrick’s back like she always does at bedtime*

Edrick: But I am not your husband.

Mommy: Of course you’re not! But married people do whatever feels nice to each other.

Edrick: Then, who’s going to rub your back Mom? Who’s gonna make you feel nice?

Mommy: Hmmmmmmmm… nice question, Monch. *thinks of her Kingsize bed, the six pillows and Mr. Cocoa*

Dance Little Ladies, Dance!

.

Christmas 2002, Calgary, with my beloved Meagan and my brand-new Kitreena.

.

I Hope You Dance

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances but they’re worth taking
Lovin’ might be a mistake but it’s worth making

Don’t let some hell-bent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out, reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me you’ll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

Edrick: Mommy can I call Daddy from your electric phone?

Mommy: No sweetheart.

Edrick: Why not?

Mommy: You just Skyped with him yesterday. Maybe he’s busy today.

Edrick: But Mommy, if he knows it’s me, he won’t be busy. He’ll talk to me.

Mommy: I’m sure he will Monch. But he’s at work. Let’s wait til Saturday, ok?

Edrick: *is upset* I wish when Adam grows up he will marry you!

Mommy: Adam? You mean, Adam your best friend at school?

Edrick: Yes. He will be an adult. I wish he would marry you and love you for 200 days!

Mommy: But I want someone who can love me longer than 200 days.

Edrick: How long did Daddy love you Mommy?

Mommy: Uhh… 12 years.

Edrick: 12 yeeeaaarrrsss? That’s very long!

My Maybe Baby

Saying goodnight is getting more and more challenging these days with Kitreena. While I do enjoy the bed-talk, the cuddles, the giggles and the many thought-provoking topics, I shouldn’t be entertaining half of her theories, really! And at bedtime the other night, out of nowhere…

.

Kitreena: Mom, could you please have another baby?

Mommy: *chokes on her reply* Another what?

Kitreena: Another baby. And a baby girl please. I want a baby sister.

Mommy: Where did this come from?

Kitreena: Mommm please, it would be really nice if there’s a baby in the house.

Mommy: *is still very much flabbergasted* But I can’t have a baby without a husband.

Kitreena: Why not?

Mommy: Because a woman needs a man to get a baby.

Kitreena: You mean you need a husband to get pregnant?

Mommy: Uh, yeah!

Kitreena: I don’t get it. But the baby is going to be in your tummy.

Mommy: Yes, it is. But my tummy needs a husband to make it pregnant. *tries not to be too explicit to an eight-year old*

Kitreena: Ohhhhh! Is that why people get married? To get babies?

Mommy: Well, not all. But mostly. Yes.

Kitreena: Hmmm… since Daddy doesn’t want to be your husband anymore, you have to get a new husband, Mom.

Mommy: Well, maybe I don’t want a new husband.

Kitreena: But how are you going to get another baby then?

Mommy: Maybe I don’t want another baby.

Kitreena: Mommy, please?

Mommy: It’s not as easy as getting a fish at the market you know. Besides, who would want to be my husband.

Kitreena: *smiles very widely*

Mommy: Oh come on now baby, it’s bedtime. Good night! *tries not to smile*

Kitreena: But Mommm, I really do want a baby sister. *pouts*

Mommy: I’ll go fishing tomorrow then. Good night Monchhh!
